Returning to the river: Te Mana o te Wai Te Matau a Māui (Hawkes bay)

Last summer the team from Choose Clean Water traveled across Aotearoa to record stories of local rivers, from the people who are seeing the changes and effects caused by commercial activities, and poor management of freshwater ways.

💧 This is the first screening of the short film focusing on rivers in Te Matau a Māui, Hawkes Bay. We'll take the chance to discuss the state of the water, how it impacts the community, and what we can do to turn it around.

💧 In this webinar Te Matau a Māui edition Tom Kay will be in conversation with:

🌏 Ngaio Tiuka, Ngāti Kahungunu Director of Environment and Natural Resources Unit 🌏 Levi Walford-Smith, youth worker 🌏 India Logan-Riley, Te Ara Whatu/ActionStation 🌏 Marnie Prickett, Choose Clean Water

💧 We'll hear the impact of commercial water interests taking water from our awa (rivers) and groundwater. We'll ask what solutions speakers see for restoring water flows and their vision for healthy rivers in Hawkes Bay, and Aotearoa.

💧 The Choose Clean Water films 2021 are inspired by the principle of Te Mana o te Wai, which is a simple guide for protecting the health of waterways: look after the health of the water first, to look after the health of the people, and lastly any other kind of use.
